Helpful Conception hints & tips to enhance your opportunity to conceive
It takes on average at least six months for normal, healthy couples to conceive. Don't be alarmed if the first month does not result in pregnancy. However, if you have not conceived after six months of using the Conception Kit, you should consult your medical provider. Be sure to take along your daily chart in the Conception Journal, your doctor will find this invaluable.
Have sex after 24 hours but before 48 hours after your LH surge using the Conception Kit. The best time to enhance your opportunity to conceive is during ovulation. Then use the Conception Cap to concentrate the sperm on your cervix for four to six hours.
Too much sex is not a good thing. Avoid ejaculations from day 10 of your cycle forward. Frequent sex will decrease the amount of sperm found in the semen. Remember, the goal is to concentrate the most sperm possible at the opening of the cervix right after the LH surge.
Consuming too much alcohol can reduce your fertility. More than three drinks a day may decrease your chances of getting pregnant.
Control your weight. Being either over or under weight can make it harder to conceive.
Herbs are not always what they seem. Some herbs can cause you to not reach your full potential when trying to conceive. Make sure you know exactly what you are taking and all the side effects related to the herb. As of this writing, herbs are not regulated by the FDA, so ingest with caution.
Showers are in, baths are out. Bathing in a tub and soaking should be avoided during the months you are trying to conceive:
Be sure to chart, chart, chart. Charting will assist you in taking control of your reproductive health by giving you and your physician a better understanding of your cycle and possible problems.
Antihistamines are great for colds, but not for trying to conceive! Antihistamines may dry up the mucus in your nose, however they also dry up the mucus found at the opening of the cervical Os (the doorway to the uterus). Your cervical mucus plays a very important role in helping the sperm swim through to the uterus. Having thick and dry cervical mucus is like slamming the door shut on the sperm.
Quit Smoking. For a woman, smoking decreases the number of child bearing years. Smoking can also cause abnormal pregnancy.
Drinking several cups of caffeine a day may increase the risk of endometriosis in the uterus and fallopian tubes, which makes it harder for the egg to attach after fertilization has occurred.
Exercise in moderation. Don't over do exercise to the point of stopping your periods. If this occurs you have also stopped your opportunity to conceive.
Douching was once thought to have positive cleansing properties for the vagina. Now researchers have found that douching can change the pH balance in the vagina and push a STD/STI into the uterus. Either of these conditions can result in a hostile environment for sperm. Research has also shown that douching can cause ectopic pregnancies, a condition where the fertilized egg grows inside the fallopian tube, instead of the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are 100% fatal (if left untreated) to the mother and must be addressed promptly with a medical professional.
Start using a multi-vitamin. Look for vitamins that contain B6, folic acid and iron. Over-the-counter prenatal vitamins are available. Consult with your doctor or health care professional to obtain a list of recommended prenatal vitamins and supplements.
Add oranges and broccoli to your diet. Oranges and broccoli contain folic acid and iron. Mother always said, “eat your fruits and vegetables.” Now you know why… she wanted grandchildren!
Quit Smoking. For a man, smoking can lower sperm count and decrease the sperm’s ability to swim by 20%.
Marijuana also lowers sperm count, slows the sperm’s ability to swim, and lowers testosterone.
Hot tubs are just too hot to handle. Anything that raises the temperature of your testicles will decrease sperm production. Don't jump in the tub, save the sperm!
Tight underwear can have the same effect as a hot tub. Tight underwear holds the testicles closer to your body and keeps them warmer, which can decrease sperm production. Consider switching to boxer shorts when you are trying to conceive.
Keep laptop computers off your lap. Laptops can get quite warm and heat up your scrotum, which could reduce your ability to produce sperm.
Prolonged bicycle riding can damage the groin. Any injury to the testicles can reduce sperm production.
Exposure to lead reduces sperm count.
Sperm take about two months to grow before they enter the semen and are ejaculated. Avoid unhealthy habits at least two months before trying to conceive.
Anabolic steroids suppress the body’s ability to make testosterone. They can even cause the body to stop sperm production all together.
Drink bottled water.Currently,waste water treatment facilities do not remove medications that have been urinated into sewer systems. Over the past 40 years the hormones in birth control pills have gradually entered the ground water system. Those hormones have in turn significantly reduced sperm counts. Men should use bottled water not only for drinking, but for making coffee, tea and other drinks.
